HUE AND CRY MUSIC CLUB

BAND

Hue and Cry first made their mark in the late eighties with the hugely successful albums ‘Seduced and Abandoned’ and ‘Remote’, spawning smash hit singles such as ‘Labour of Love’, ‘Violently’, and ‘Looking For Linda’ along the way. Their award winning style of strongly written pop songs fused with a unique brand of soul brought them continued success as the band marched into the nineties releasing more acclaimed work including the chart-storming Top Ten album ‘Stars Crash Down’, amongst others.

After moving away from the pop mainstream to concentrate on other projects, the Kane brothers Pat and Greg returned with their first pop album in 16 years - the highly acclaimed album ‘Open Soul’ (released September 2008) which boasted an energetic combination of the band’s classic pop soul sound and fresh, crisp, sometimes stripped down production.

Two major UK tours followed the release of the ‘Open Soul’, and in February 2009 a definitive selection of the band’s earlier work including hits, rare mixes, extended versions and B-sides was released, entitled ‘The Collection’.

The summer of 2009 was spent writing, recording and mixing their latest album ‘Xmasday’ (released 30 November 2009). The album takes the listener on a typical Christmas day journey, from the early morning air of excitement, through all the ensuing fun and festivities, to the contented end of the day and contains a mixture of brand new

Hue and Cry tracks along with some classic songs and seasonal favourites.
Among these is a cover of ‘Two Little Boys’, originally recorded at the turn of the century by Harry Lauder but perhaps better known for the Rolf Harris version which topped the 1969 UK Xmas singles chart.

Greg Kane says “we love the fact that this song is about brothers, and with the great history attached to it, we felt that it was one we should definitely record for this album.”

To round off the year and compliment the release of ‘Xmasday’, Hue and Cry celebrated all things Christmas with their fans in December 2009 by presenting the extremely successful‘History City Xmas Weekend’ in their home town of Glasgow, an event that saw them perform two special shows over the one weekend (Friday 18th and Saturday 19th December) at the renowned ABC venue on Sauchiehall Street.

In their live performance career, Hue and Cry have performed alongside some of the biggest names in the business including U2, James Brown, Van Morrison, Madonna, Al Green, Simply Red and have played to thousands on their own headline tours. In addition to this they are recipients of one of the most coveted awards in the Scottish music industry – the Tartan Clef Lifetime Achievement Award.

Right now, they’re pop musicians again, “and I’m going to enjoy the craziness this time rather than bemoan it,” Pat grins. “First time around, everything was high stakes and high anxiety – chart positions led to despair! – but not this time. I’ve had too many adult experiences to worry about things going out of control.”. The band are relishing the opportunity to engage new fans in 2010 and after building on the success of 2009, the brothers Kane have a long-term plan to stick around and continue to do what they do best – writing and producing classic pop music with a contemporary edge.
